Gary Adams & Catherine Peat are the new owners and operators of Oban Bay Marina.
They are both Offshore Yachtmasters and share a love of sailing. They have recently purchased the marina after taking a “sabbatical” where they spent two years sailing the Mediterranean on their 47ft Trintella named ‘Peace of Eden’. It was time to seek out a new challenge and Oban was the answer.
Oban Marina & Yacht Services Ltd is perfectly situated opposite Oban at the gateway to the Western Isles on the picturesque Isle of Kerrera. In sight of the town of Oban, it is a well-serviced and popular island marina offering full access at all tides.
With 100 pontoon spaces and 30 moorings it has an easily accessible diesel fuel berth with a diesel pump. This diesel pump required updating to be in accordance with Measurement Instrument Directive (MID) for the legal reselling of diesel fuel to the leisure boats, namely the sailing community.
On realising the existing installation needed to be updated Mr Adams contacted several fuelling solutions’ providers. He selected Cameron Forecourt to undertake the work because he felt they stood out by far as being the most helpful and knowledgeable when he contacted the company.
“Darren West, the Installation Manager was extremely helpful right from the start and was not just trying to sell new equipment to me but giving advice and guidance on options available and requirements to be within the trading standards law. The fact we were on an island far away did not faze him or the team and he simply guided us to the best fuelling solution before we had even given an order.”
Darren had an in depth discussion with Gary and, in line with Cameron Forecourt’s policy, gave no obligation advice. On reviewing the options possible, Gary decided on a new installation comprising a C Series MID approved diesel pump with a delivery speed of 50 litres per minute upgraded to the 316 Coastal Specification option. This model is specifically made for marine applications and has a thicker stainless-steel housing which is a standard requirement for marine installations because it prevents corrosion caused by the salty sea air and water penetration.
C-Series pumps provide the ultimate in commercial fuelling equipment for heavy duty environments where speed of fuelling and reliability are vital. From large fleet garages, truck stops, marinas or small airfield environments, the C-Series commercial range provides a robust, accurate and visually attractive fuelling solution.
All C-Series pumps are built to the highest specification from long-lasting stainless steel and incorporate the latest technology. These C-Series Commercial pumps are available in either mono or twin models, and in three speeds – 50, 70 and 90 LPM.
Low-cost, long-term cost of ownership is an integral consideration in the design of the C-Series range as is speed of fuelling and reliability – vital to commercial fuel operators.
Cameron Forecourt’s team of professionals draw on many years’ experience in this highly specialised industry to ensure that they give their customers the advice necessary to provide them with a practical solution to their problems. You can rest assured that you are dealing with true professionals whose design input is underwritten by substantial professional liability insurance cover.
“it was a good job done by our Installation Engineers, Rick and Pete who undertook the work in a highly efficient manner, taking just one day to complete; catching the first ferry out and last ferry back to the mainland. We took the old pump away, left the new pump in commission and, of course, there have been no problems since. It was a clean and quick text book installation.”
The sailing community have all commented they are very happy with the new diesel pump in place at Oban Bay and Gary is now equipped to welcome all leisure boaters – old and new – for the busy summer season ahead.
